As you might remember, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month here at CCLC by featuring presentations, a Spanish course, and Spanish dancing as a way to inform our students about Hispanic culture during the month of October. February is Black History Month, and we began our |
recognition of African-American culture by spending last Friday focusing on the importance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his teachings in our nation’s past and present. We will continue our recognition of Black History Month by incorporating presentations on historical figures, events, |
customs, and current issues. We will also be hosting a guest speaker, and art projects focusing on Black traditions. These projects are fun activities that will be incorporated into our Fun Friday Events.

I hope that everyone enjoyed their long weekend! I would like to begin this letter with a HUGE thank you and a Keep Up The Good Work to our parents. As of today, Tuesday January 22, our students have read 90 books! We are so proud of them for the hard work that they have displayed thus far. We are also proud of all of you—the parents—who have been a part of our Read-A-Thon program by allowing the students to read to family members! Great job! Please continue to encourage your student to continue reading to help us reach our goal of 2008! As a part of our weekly letters we will be |
including the weekly Read-A-Thon total count of how many books the students have read. Also, we will be reminding you of how many weeks we have left toward our goal. We have 8 more weeks left to read, and I believe that we can reach our goal of 2008 books if we continue to work together — parents, CCLC staff, and students! This week to wrap up our conferences we will be asking you to fill out parent surveys. Your responses on our surveys will help us better serve you and your families’ needs. As you are all aware, we had conferences last week to discuss our stu |

dents’ progress. The conference went well, and we appreciate all of your patience and cooperation last week! If you were unable to attend your conference or if you did not schedule a conference, we will be calling you this week to discuss your child’s progress over the telephone. If you have any questions about your conference or would like more information on any of the items mentioned in this letter, please call Moses or myself at Cedar Heights (740) 687– 7334.
Thanks and Happy Reading! |
