This week we are beginning our Read-A-Thon! Cedar Community Learning Center students are participating in a reading challenge within their grade level. The students’ progress is being tracked on a sticker chart, and the student from each grade level with the most stickers will receive a prize during our Read-A-Thon Wrap Up Party on March 19. Students will have from today, January 14 until March 18 to read books toward their group goal of 2008 books as an entire group. If the students meet or exceed 2008 books, the CCLC staff will host another party on April 4th to celebrate all of our students hard work and effort! Students will be in competi |

However, if a student reads the book to a family member, friend, teacher, or mentor then he or she will receive two stickers for that book. We have two goals for our students by issuing this challenge to them. Our first goal is to help our students see reading as something that they can incorporate into their everyday lives. Our second goal is to make reading a family event. Reading is such an important part of our lives, |

and reading to and with children has shown many great benefits for the child. There is a list below of just some of the benefits of reading with your student. We ask all of you to be our supporters of the Read-A-Thon at home by encouraging your child to read, and include others in their reading. We also would like to encourage you to plan to attend our Read-A-Thon Wrap– Up Party. We will be featuring prizes, and parent education on the importance of reading within the family.
